Song Lists
During the worship wars of the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s, congregations frequently tore themselves apart in the battle between older and newer music. As a Christian growing more and more to respect the Presbyterian / Reformed tradition, I sometimes found myself torn between the singable praise and worship songs I played on guitar for small groups and the richness and theological depth of the great hymns. Then came Stuart Townend’s “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” (1996) and his collaboration with Keith Getty on “In Christ Alone” (2001), and it became crystal clear that both were possible.
High-quality contemporary Christian songs now abound, and we sing them in my church every week. If you want to know what to start with, try the songs listed here.
